penny university.

You may have heard about the new 'retro salad' place that's popped up opposite Burger Theory on Union Street, but if you haven't then let me make the formal intros - Penny University, you, you, say hello to Penny University.  Loads of fresh baguettes, wraps and salads adorn the front of the small (and I mean, small) cafe but dine-ins are welcome so long as you don't mind sharing the table with other randoms.

devour cafe patisserie.

Yay! The new Devour Cafe & Patisserie is finally open.  I've been waiting for this for months now and was not disappointed when a friend and I came to try out their new lunch menu.  It's all the way down in Richmond (near South Road), quite the distance between its sister dessert bar in Prospect, but luckily for me it's close to my church which means....weekly visits?  Hmmm, my wallet won't like that much.

peel street.

I guess if you name your restaurant after the street you're in, it's easier to remember?  Even better if the street is a inconspicuous one like Peel Street is (between Hindley St and Currie St).  "Peel Street? Where's that?" "On Peel Street!" "But where's Peel Street?" "On Peel Street!" ...........Moving on.  The unexpected thing about it though is that the restaurant is nothing like the small, old alley.  On the contrary, it has a very snazzy layout, upbeat tempo and fresh menu to draw in the crowds.

bar 9 central.

I was pretty excited when I heard that Bar 9 had opened up their sister shop down in Adelaide Plaza just below David Jones.  Having heard raving reviews about their original shop on Glen Osmond Rd, but never having had the chance to go, this was a good compromise despite the limited menu items.

earth's kitchen.

Vegetarians, vegans and lovers of organic food - this is your place.  Earth's Kitchen, placed on the corner of Pirie and Hyde Street, caught my eye when I was scouring Urbanspoon to see where to eat next.  Proponents of all things organic, gluten-free and whatever-is-bad-for-you-free, the owners of Earth's Kitchen have nailed it with their delicious menu and rustic atmosphere.

cucina ristorante.

When a few friends from overseas came to visit, I was given the the task of finding somewhere to lunch.  Having perused over Cucina's menu over extensively during my procrastinations, I knew this was the place I wanted to try out.

Opting for an inside seat, we had a pleasant view of the restaurant's gorgeous antique decor.  There was also a nice breeze coming in through their open doors which meant we could enjoy the lovely weather outside without the traffic whizzing by.

colin & co.

A friend and I came to Colin & Co. for a late lunch by random choice, neither of us being familiar with King William Road and its dining options.  I thought the layout of the cafe was pretty cool with an extended, covered veranda which gives the illusion of eating outside while staying cool (or warm) inside.

For those who are thinking that the place looks similar to Jones The Grocer, you're absolutely right.  The owners of the market/eatery changed the name to to Colin & Co. to fit in with their Rundle Place cafe under the same name.  For those who weren't thinking that, well .... there you go.

zest gallery cafe.

Taking advantage of the warm start to spring, a friend and I headed down to Glenelg a few days ago for some summer (spring) lovin' and a good catchup meal.  I'm not very familiar with the eateries down in Glenelg but Zest's menu looked promising for a sunny day lunch.  They also do breakfast and offer a variety of cakes and other sweets for a morning or afternoon coffee break.
