bread & bone wood grill.

Peel Street, get it on your foodar stat, with the little lane off of Hindley Street and Currie Street becoming home to some of the newest and hippest eateries in Adelaide.  Bread and Bone Grill is no exception and the best thing is that they're open from lunchtime until late everyday so there's no excuse not to go try it out! Lunchtimes are generally more quiet but it can get really packed at night and there's an awesome combination of conversation and food flowing freely through the warehouse-style restaurant.

la bonne table.

Graduation celebrations at La Bonne Table! I've been eyeing this place for almost a year now but since it's relatively expensive (for me) I've never been.  Opposite to the fire station on Wakefield Street, it's hard to spot as you drive by since it's not particularly flashy.  It's former life as a carpet/tapestry salehouse can be seen only by the high stone ceilings and the big carpets hanging in the foyer but other than that it has been Cinderella'd into a romantic, candle-lit modern day restaurant.

mesa lunga.

Mesa Lunga.  Mee-sa Lun-ga? Mess-a Lung-a? Unimportant, but still necessary if I ever need to direct someone here for expensive but yummy tapas.  On the corner of Gouger and Morphett Street, a friend suggested this place for a catch-up dinner recently since neither one of us had tried it before.  I didn't know what to expect since I'm a tapas newbie but a little birdie told me that tapas can be pretty pricey.  Birdie was right.

fooding through hong kong: one.

So it's actually been a while since I finished my internship in Hong Kong.  I have made it back in one piece, although slightly heavier than when I departed. Hehehe...there was just way too much good food in Hong Kong for me to not try!  So much that I've had to split my fooding into another two posts, otherwise it would just be mega long.

zapata's mexican restaurant.

A recent catch-up with a friend brought us to Zapata's, a Mexican restaurant nestled among other eateries on Melbourne Street in North Adelaide. Let's be honest, I'm not a very experienced eater of Mexican food.  I can count the number of times I've had Mexican food with two hands and am utterly hopeless at pronouncing most of what's on the menu, so I wouldn't really know what was authentic and what was just an imitation of Mexican food.  However, having said that, I found Zapata's to be the best place I've been to so far and it has inspired me to go out and try more of this yummy cuisine.

bocelli caffe ristorante.

Wednesday night has recently turned into date night with my grandma.  Yeah.  I'm cool like that.  We've been to Bocelli's quite a number of times with the rest of the family and have always enjoyed their food.  She requested to come here a few days ago because she wanted to have their pizza again and, since I've been craving pizza myself, couldn't say no to her proposition.

Grandma and I are pretty big eaters so we decided to go for a medium-sized salmon pizza and a main serving of the spaghetti marinara to share between the two of us.  Evidently, grandma enjoys her seafood.

the greek on halifax.

Never having been a great fan of Greek food, I walked into The Greek pretty tentatively despite looking at their menu online before.  The only things which used to come to my mind when I thought of Greek food was feta cheese, and I really don't like feta cheese. But I am glad to say that my mind has been changed and I can't wait to try more Greek food.

I actually went to The Greek twice within a few weeks, so I'll be combining both experiences into one.  Both times I shared the entree/s and main course/s with the rest of my friends.  As most people already know, sharing is much better than individually because you get to try out a greater variety.  And also, if you don't like one of the dishes, you can just not eat it.

First Time

The first time I went, we ordered revithopites (patties made of of chickpeas, capsicum and herb)  which came with a yoghurt dipping sauce, krokettes (zucchini and cheese croquettes) and the moussaka.

Krokettes: $15

maiz & mezcal.

I first learnt about Maiz & Mezcal through urbanspoon, where the ratings were pretty high at 89% (you will soon realise that I use urbanspoon frequently to find new places).  I read through the reviews and decided to go there for a catch-up dinner with a friend.  My friend had been there previously and she said she had liked their food and had especially enjoyed their Margaritas.  Too bad I'm not a drinker.

When we arrived there weren't a lot of tables taken so we chose one by the window.  I had rung up previously and was told although there were free tables at 6 pm, we had to be finished by 7pm since there was another booking.  So keeping in mind that time restraint, we went through the menu and decided quickly.

We ordered the guacamole dip as an entree and two taco dishes to share for our mains.  We also ordered the horchata (rice and coconut juice) for each of us.
